The seventies, a cooperative kibbutz in the Western Galilee. strange times. Men go out to fight and never come back, technological devices start popping up in every house, girls and boys dance in clubs to the sounds of rock and roll. Against the background of place and time, a deaf boy grew up. With a direct voice and clear language, Gonen Nesher leaves us no choice but to drift along with him on his journey of memories from the kibbutz. We share all the sights, smells and tastes, and are mainly led by the imagination, which also sharpens as a compensation for the loss of hearing, and turns out to be the strongest sense. In vulnerable and honest writing, the reader is invited to wonder about the power of imagination versus memory, and about the possibility of confronting the pain out of compassion and acceptance. The book reveals the dark side of one of the esoteric and foundational myths of Israeli society - the indignation and sense of alienation that the individual experiences from the kibbutz, a society that was considered exemplary at the time.
